Teacher Education Office
The Council for Educator Preparation (CAEP), formerly NCATE, is recognized by the U.S. Department of Education and numerous national organizations as the accrediting body for universities that prepare teachers and other professional personnel for work in P-12 schools. CAEP ensures that accredited institutions hold high standards and produce competent, caring, and highly qualified educators and administrators who have proven they can support the learning of all students. LHU’s teacher education programs and unit are nationally accredited by CAEP (formerly NCATE). All academic programs with certification are also nationally accredited by their respective professional associations. This is a significant accomplishment because it demonstrates to parents, students, and other constituents that we are committed to a rigorous compliance and accreditation process based on high standards. As of Fall 2013, there are only 20 institutions in the state of Pennsylvania nationally accredited by CAEP / NCATE, LHU being one of them, showing a continued commitment to quality teacher preparation.
Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE) provides leadership, guidance, and resources to help P-20 schools meet the educational needs of all students. PDE also provides support for and oversight of Pennsylvania Educator Preparation Programs.
The LHU Teacher Education Office monitors and reports on annual assessment of student learning for all of its certification programs meeting compliance requirements for national, regional and state accreditation. The annual assessments are based upon the NCATE/CAEP and Specialized Program Assessments (SPA) standards and learning outcomes. Additionally, faculty make data-driven-decisions each year based on these annual assessment results for program improvement. These annual assessments of student learning are aligned well with LHU’s Conceptual Framework of the Teacher Education programs and unit.
All of LHU's education programs have complied with all state and federal requirements and continue to be approved by the Pennsylvania Department of Education.
