What You'll Study

Pre-Physician Assistant "4+2"

As healthcare providers, physician assistants practice medicine in collaboration with a physician or surgeon. They examine patients, diagnose and treat injuries and illnesses, prescribe medications, and provide treatment. Over the next decade, employment of physician assistants is projected to grow much faster than the average for other occupations.

In this track you will complete four years of coursework necessary for admission into a physician assistant master's degree program. The LHU Health Science program's focus on the human body will prepare you well for advanced study. Upon completion, you may apply to the graduate program at Lock Haven University or other universities.

Aside from the traditional 4+2 track, which will prepare you to apply for physician assistant programs across the country, we offer two options for those desiring to complete the graduate portion of their studies at LHU.

  • LHU's "4+2" Physician Assistant Master's Degree Program
    • Seats are reserved in the graduate program for Health Science students who complete the B.S. in Health Science with the following criteria:
      • Grade Point Average (GPA): 3.2 or above
      • Grades in core classes: B or better
      • Graduate Record Examination (GRE): Minimum 300 (verbal and quantitative portions), 4 out of 6 on writing sample
      • Successful interview
      • Students not meeting these criteria are not necessarily excluded from admission, but are considered in the pool of applicants from other colleges/universities.

Physician Assistant (3+2) (Test optional for fall 2021 applicants)

Admission to the accelerated "3+2" program is by invitation only. To be considered you must submit an LHU application designating the major Health Science/Pre Physician Assistant track and be accepted by January 1st.

Applicants are carefully screened to ensure they have the track record (e.g. high class rank and strength of curriculum) to succeed in this very concentrated, rigorous and demanding academic and professional program.

If accepted, a compressed schedule of undergraduate classes, including summer work, will enable you to transition into the graduate program at the end of your third year.

Once accepted into the "3+2" program, you must maintain the following criteria in order to ensure a guaranteed seat into the graduate program:

      • Grade Point Average (GPA): 3.2 or above
      • Grades in core classes: B or better
      • Graduate Record Examination (GRE): Minimum 300 (verbal and quantitative portions), 4 out of 6 on writing sample
      • Successful interview
