Pre-Physician Assistant (4+2)

As healthcare providers, physician assistants practice medicine in collaboration with a physician or surgeon. They examine patients, diagnose and treat injuries and illnesses, prescribe medications, and provide treatment. Over the next decade, employment of physician assistants is projected to grow much faster than the average for other occupations.

In this track you will complete four years of coursework necessary for admission into a physician assistant master's degree program. The Commonwealth University Health Science program's focus on the human body will prepare you well for advanced study. Upon completion, you may apply to the graduate program at Commonwealth University - Lock Haven or other universities.

Aside from the traditional 4+2 track, which will prepare you to apply for physician assistant programs across the country, we offer two options for those desiring to complete the graduate portion of their studies at LHU.

  • LHU's "4+2" Physician Assistant Master's Degree Program
    • Students who meet the criteria below are guaranteed an interview to Commonwealth University’s graduate physician assistant studies program:
Grade Point Average (GPA): 3.2 or above
Grades in core classes: B or better
      Successful interview

Students not meeting these criteria are not necessarily excluded from admission, but are considered in the pool of applicants from other colleges/universities.

Admission to the accelerated "3+2" program is by invitation only.

To be considered for the accelerated option, you must have a completed online application designating the  Health Science/Pre Physician Assistant track before November 1st with a SAT score of at least 1200 or a composite score of 25 on the ACT submitted to the Admissions Office.

If accepted, a compressed schedule of undergraduate classes, including summer work, will enable you to transition into the graduate program at the end of your third year.

Once accepted into the "3+2" program, you must maintain the following criteria in order to ensure a guaranteed seat into the graduate program:

      • Grade Point Average (GPA): 3.2 or above
