What You'll Study
As businesses continue to collect large amounts of data, systems need to be developed to allow these organizations to store and access all this “big data.” This track prepares you for careers using and developing “big data” information systems. You will learn the tools and techniques for storing, accessing, and using big data. Topics covered include:
- Designing databases and data warehouses to store large amounts of data
- Data Science tools and techniques for retrieving and analyzing data
- Developing information systems supporting big data

Program Highlights
- Facilities: Housed in Akeley Hall, students have access to an Application Development Lab with
30 seats and Gaming Workstations running Ubuntu.
The Linux Lab has 12 Gaming Workstations and a Desktop supercomputer from Exxact Corporation running Ubuntu. The system has three Titan X graphics cards. The lab also includes the following equipment for independent studies: (1) Arcade Machine components, (2) EV3 Robots running Java Run time environments, (3) a quad copter with programmable control, and (4) a 3D Printer from Makerbot.
The lab is supported with Linux servers (Fedora 30), and has a firewall and VLAN based architecture. Authentication is based on NIS, and students have access to an Oracle Enterprise Server and an Apache web server in addition to all the developer applications used for regular classes. The desktop supercomputer also runs Matlab with the Signal Processing and Image Processing toolkits. - Scholarships: From honorariums to full-tuition waivers, scholarships exist to reward your hard

- Internships: As part of the degree program you will complete twenty-eight hours of external experience
which can be fulfilled through internships. Students have interned with companies
including:
- Quicken
- Los Alamos National Lab
- GlaxoSmithKline
- IBM
