Athletics Hall of Famer, Lloyd '89, proudly still connected to LHU Wrestling Program
1989 Lock Haven University graduate, Brad Lloyd, had the experience of a lifetime
as a 4-year
student-athlete in the Bald Eagles’ nationally-ranked wrestling program. More than
three decades
later, the 2019 LHU Athletics Hall-of-Fame inductee is honored to continue his involvement
with Mat-Town USA and the LHU wrestling program as a proud alumnus, fan and supporter.
Lloyd, a four-time national qualifier for the Bald Eagles and three-time All-American,
still holds
LHU’s all-time wins record with 146. He is one of only three LHU wrestlers to earn
All-
American honors three times, finishing seventh, third and second in 1986, 1988 and
1989,
respectively. His 1989 runner-up finish was the first time a Bald Eagle wrestler competed
in a
national final in more than 20 years.
"Lock Haven University, along with my coaches and teammates, prepared me for
a level of
success that I didn’t think was possible coming out of high school,” said Lloyd. “I
got to wrestle
at major universities all over the country and competed at 4 NCAA Championships. These
are
memories I will never forget.”
The Lloyd family’s Lock Haven University ties are plentiful.
Lloyd met his wife, Heather ’88, at LHU in 1985 while each was a student working toward
earning their degrees in secondary education/biology. Their twin daughters, Kiersten
and Gwen,
are currently enrolled in LHU’s education program with an anticipated graduation in
2025.
Lloyd’s sister, Bethanie, also earned a degree in elementary education from LHU in
1996.
For the Lloyd family, the list of factors that distinguish Lock Haven University from
other
schools is extensive.
Academically, LHU’s small class sizes and intimate campus enable students and student-athletes
to build exceptionally close relationships with professors, coaches, teammates and
staff.
On the wrestling front, Lloyd believes LHU’s smaller size compared to larger DI wrestling
schools creates significantly less distractions that help to enhance students-athletes’
success.
Lloyd also believes the Lock Haven community’s passion for the wrestling is second to none.
“Lock Haven University was the perfect atmosphere for me,” said Lloyd. “There’s a
reason they
call it Mat-Town USA. The people of Lock Haven truly love their wrestling.”
“I'm so proud to still be affiliated with the program,” he added. “When I was
a student, and to
this day, the wrestling staff still does an excellent job preparing students for all
facets of life.”
