LHU Criminal Justice Faculty Support Local Rally for Recovery
On September 23, 2017, Advocates for a Drug Free Tomorrow hosted a Rally for Recovery
to promote awareness and raise money for people recovering from drug and alcohol addiction.
This was the second year that the Rally for Recovery was held at Riverview Park in
Lock Haven and this year included a 5k run/walk.
Attending the event were faculty from the LHU Criminal Justice Department, Dr. Ed Bowman and Dr. Katie Ely. Dr. Ely participated in the 5k run. Dr.’s Bowman and Ely work with the Clinton County Criminal Justice Advisory Board on initiatives related to treatment for addicted offenders and wanted to show their support for an important community event. Coordinating the event was Clinton County Adult Probation Services where a number of former graduates from the criminal justice program are employed. The event drew an estimated 125 runners and raised more than $1,500 for a worthy cause. According to Dr. Ely, it was a great opportunity to show support for the community and to recognize individuals who are recovering from addiction. It was also a great opportunity to connect with Lock Haven University graduates who are now working in our local criminal justice agencies.
