LHU Council of Trustees Releases Statement on Diversity, Equity and Inclusion

LHU Sign

The Lock Haven University Council of Trustees is committed to ensuring that LHU is a diverse, inclusive, and equitable community where all its members are respected and valued. This is true regardless of an individual's gender, gender identity, gender expression, age, race, ethnicity, national origin, sexual orientation, sexual identity, disability or education. As the LHU Council of Trustees, we do not condone any form of discrimination, harassment, or bias.

Fostering a campus climate where all community members are welcomed and encouraged to be their full and true selves is not merely aspirational, but it is essential to LHU’s educational mission. To truly benefit from our campus’ diversity, we must embrace opportunities to learn from each other. We must also engage our community’s full range of experiences, viewpoints, and intellectual approaches. These diverse perspectives can enrich conversations and benefit everyone, even though they may challenge us to grow and think differently.  However, it is vital that civility and respect are at the center and are the guardrails for everything that we do.

The LHU Council of Trustees’ commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion means that we value access to success for all and we expect that all members of the extended LHU community will be treated with dignity and fairness. We understand that cross-cultural interactions may sometimes be surprising or uncomfortable. However, when perspectives clash, we have individual and shared responsibilities to guard against behaviors that demean or otherwise harm individuals and our community. A strong campus community is characterized by respect for, and civility toward, one another, in and outside of the classroom.

The Lock Haven University Council of Trustees directs Interim President Bashar Hanna to accelerate diversity, equity and inclusion priorities and to review, develop and implement policies, procedures, culture and communications to ensure a Lock Haven community where all members can thrive.
