Scholarships for Returning Students - General Information

The Lock Haven University Foundation Scholarship Program is held during the spring semester providing recognition and financial assistance to students who are selected using a range of criteria. Click below to learn more about the process and to review available scholarship opportunities.

Important Information

Scholarships, linked to the left, are divided by college, international, and general (any major).  Please carefully review the criteria and only apply for scholarships for which you meet the criteria.  The name of the scholarship is hyperlinked to the scholarship application. 

Once you submit your application, you will receive an email verifying that the submission was successful.  In the event additional information is required (recommendation letters, proof of employment, etc.), you may upload the information with your application or email to Stacey Masorti at sjm1038@lockhaven.edu

Remember, if you receive a scholarship you will be notified by April 2, 2018 and you will be required to attend Spring Convocation (unless prior approval is granted to miss the convocation).  All scholarship recipients must also write a thank you letter to the donor in order to have the scholarship applied.

Important Information:

  • Apply prior to Friday, February 9, 2018 … No exceptions!
  • Students must attend LHU for the 2018/2019 academic year to receive the scholarship. 
  • Foundation awards and scholarships are presented at the Spring Convocation on April 29, 2018 at 2:00 pm in Price Auditorium.
  • Recipients must attend the Convocation ceremony and write a letter of thanks to the donor in order to receive awards. The attendance requirement may be waived only if acceptable excuses are received by the Enrollment Management Office no later than Friday, April 27. 
  • The award amounts are an approximation of what is likely to be available. They are subject to change.
  • Some awards may be divided among multiple recipients. 
  • Monetary awards will be applied to fall 2018 semester through the Financial Aid Office. Awards of $1000 or more will be split between the fall 2018 and spring 2019 semesters.

Bo Miller Excellence in Computer Science Scholarship To provide a scholarship for a deserving student majoring in Applied Computer Science dedicated to the advancement of the field of Computer Science. Must be a sophomore, junior, or senior with a GPA of 3.0 or greater.   $  1,000
C. Herbert & Mildred R. Larson Scholarship For a rising junior majoring in Computer Science with a strong background in mathematics who is a resident of Pennsylvania.  Minimum GPA of 3.0.  $    325
Charles Galgoci & Nancy Berry Galgoci Accounting Scholarship For a rising senior accounting major with the highest average among accounting majors. Recipient shall have completed accounting course work at LHU.  $ 1,025
Dr. Adrians & Marta Ozolins Scholarship For rising sophomores, juniors or seniors majoring in Economics or Political Science with preference given to an Economics major; based on academic achievement/demonstration of financial need.  $ 3,350
Eagle Valley Bargains Business Scholarship For a senior student majoring in Business and Computers that is a PA resident. Student must possess a GPA of at least 3.0.   $ 1,000
Janette Marek Memorial Scholarship For a rising senior female Computer Science major with a minimum GPA of 2.5 with demonstrated financial need/active community service.  May receive award only once.  $    225
LHU Finance & Administration Department Scholarship For a student majoring in the Department of Business and Computer Science. Must have a minimum GPA of 3.0 and have earned at least 30 credit hours. Student must have at least one remaining semester at LHU and submit to the scholarship committee a current resume and a short cover letter describing their career goals.  $ 1,000
Paula F. Bell Women in Technology Scholarship For a female majoring in Applied Computer Science. Must have earned a minimum of 30 credits in residence at LHU. Must have a minimum GPA of 2.5 in Applied Computer Science courses taken at LHU (transferred courses not included). Must have at least two remaining semesters at LHU. Student must submit a cover letter enclosing a short resume and essay describing why she chose the computer science field and her career goals.

Constance Irvin Pursley Memorial Scholarship Fund To provide a scholarship to a student employed by Stevenson Library. The recipient will be selected by the Stevenson Library Scholarship Committee, and shall demonstrate financial need.  $    850
Joan Gallagher Memorial Scholarship To provide a scholarship to a student employed by Stevenson Library. The recipient shall be a student determined to be the "most deserving" by the Stevenson Library Scholarship Committee, and shall demonstrate financial need.  $    200
RECREATION MANAGEMENT      
Cale Shaffer Memorial Scholarship For a rising Junior Recreation major with a minimum GPA of 2.5.  Recipient should be involved in community service and show a strong willingness to help others.  $    200
Dr. Matthew G. Maetozo Recreation Scholarship for Academic Excellence For a male or female student majoring in Recreation. Must have successfully completed the Professional Semester or be presently enrolled in it and must have achieved a GPA of 3.2 or better in the Recreation major and a GPA of 3.0 or better overall.   $    150
The Ann & Wayne Allison Recreation Scholarship For a rising Junior Recreation major with a minimum GPA of 3.2 or better in the major and a GPA of 3.0 or better overall.  Consideration given to service to the major and financial need.  $  1,000
SOCIAL WORK      
Dolores Lynch Scholarship For a Social Work major with at least 64 credits and a cumulative GPA of at least 2.75. Must have at least a 3.25 GPA in the courses of the social work sequence. Not based on Financial need, but on merit and good academic standing within the social work major. Applicant must write a 350 word essay on why they decided to become a social worker.   $    500
Donn & Mary Ann Zaffuto Wagner Academic Scholarship For a rising junior Social Work major with a minimum GPA of 2.5.  Recipient should be an active participant and volunteer in campus community organizations.  $ 1,175
Dr. Roosevelt Green Memorial Scholarship For a student majoring in Sociology, Anthropology, Social Work, Criminal Justice, or Geography who demonstrates respect for others, contributes to activities that benefit the LHU community and works to promote social justice on campus.  $     275

Kathy Ryan Fine Arts and Good Citizenship Scholarship For students enrolled in the Bachelor of Fine Arts Program. Recipient to be chosen by the dance professor. Must demonstrate good citizenship and financial need. $             250

Lamey and John Caprio Memorial Scholarship For full-time students who participate in the LHU Jazz Rock Ensemble.  Preference given to residents of current or former Keystone Central School District Attendance areas, specifically Sugar Valley and Bald Eagle Nittany.  $             350

Sweitzer "Haven to Haven" Scholarship Student must be matriculated at Lock Haven University and be a member of the LHU Band program. Student must have graduated from Strath Haven High School. Two winners annually.  $         1,000
The Miriam Herr Claster Award For students exhibiting exceptional musical talent. First priority to music majors with secondary considerations given to persons in PreK-Grade 4 or 4-8 Middle Level majors music emphasis program.  $             200
WOMEN & GENDER STUDIES      
The Virginia A. Martin Women & Gender Studies Memorial Scholarship  For two rising sophomore, junior or seniors minoring in Women and Gender Studies.  Must show evidence of leadership/engagement in women and gender issues on the campus or in the community and must discuss this evidence in a scholarship essay of at least 100 words.  Minimum GPA of 2.7 or higher throughout whole year after receipt of scholarship.  Selected by WGS Scholarship Committee. Deborah Suder Science Scholarship For a senior majoring in Geology from Cumberland County, Pennsylvania. If this criteria is not met, student should be a senior majoring in the Geology from Central, PA (Dauphin, Cumberland, Perry Counties.) If this criteria is not met, student should be a senior majoring in the Natural Sciences from Central PA. If this criteria is not met, student should be majoring in natural sciences.   $    2,000

PHYSICIAN ASSISTANT  
CT Assist Scholarship To provide a $2,000 scholarship awarded to a first year Physician's Assistant student which will continue into their second year for $2,000 totaling $4,000. A first year PA student will be selected annually so there will be $4,000 awarded in scholarships every year after the initial year. The recipient must be dedicated to making the world a better place through their service toward others. This scholarship is being awarded to attract potential PA students to LHU. Students must be in good academic standing and cannot be in a probationary status for any reason. Candidate must be willing to spend at least one rotation domestically or abroad to an underserved community. Additional assistance may be available to the recipient if requested through the donor to cover travel costs or lodging associated with such a rotation.   $    2,000

Victoria J. Romeo, MD Memorial Physician Assistant Scholarship In 2008 Lock Haven University Foundation became the benefactors of a trust that has endowed scholarship opportunities to graduate physician assistant students and LHUP undergraduate 3+2 BS/MHS students. This endowed scholarship fund will provide the following scholarships to future physician assistants enrolled in the LHUP programs:
·         Three $1170.00 Scholarships to students enrolled in the graduate Physician Assistant Program
·         Two  $1170.00 Scholarships to students enrolled in the undergraduate 3 + 2 BS/MHS Program
These scholarships will be competitively awarded on an annual basis. Students who receive the award in previous years are eligible to compete in subsequent years for the award. The following criteria will be used for determining award recipients:
·         Students must be residents of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania to be eligible for the award
·         Students applying in their freshman through junior years in the 3 + 2 Program or graduate PA students must have a minimum 3.2 GPA.
·         Awards will be preferentially given to students who are from medically underserved areas.
·         Financial need, as determined by the student FAFSA application, will be considered in determining award eligibility.
·         Academic Performance as demonstrated by the applicant's last 24 months of education in any setting and standardized test scores will be considered.
