Institute for International Studies

Welcome to the Institute for International Studies

The Institute for International Studies (IIS) at Lock Haven University is pleased to extend a warm welcome to all who visit our website. Here you will find information on a wide array of topics including international study opportunities, health insurance requirements (for international students in the USA and for students studying abroad), visa requirements, information for international students seeking to study at LHU for a semester or for a degree, and much more.

The IIS was founded in 1974 as the home for international education programming at Lock Haven University and is housed at 200 Ulmer Hall.

The IIS organizes a wide range of activities every year to advance the university’s mission in international education.

The Institute for International Studies (IIS) represents the 'home' for many international students studying at LHU for either a semester or a degree period. At any one time there are more than 100 international students from almost 40 countries on our campus.

The IIS works collaboratively with the International Student Association to provide interesting programming for the international students on campus and to the broader university community. The IIS is proud of having such a diverse community on campus.
