Prospective Global Honors Students

About the Global Honors Program

The mission of Global Honors Program (GHP) at Lock Haven University is to engage distinctly qualified students in an enhanced learning experience unique to the University and other educational institutions. The Global Honors Program fosters close student-professor interaction, provides invaluable peer interaction, instills leadership values, and introduces students to the aspects of a global world. The Global Honors Program achieves this through small, discussion oriented classes; opportunities for close working relationships with professors; specialized peer groups; enhanced study abroad opportunities; and globally-focused events and opportunities.

Overview: The Global Honors Program recognizes and promotes academic excellence. We traditionally attract the top 5% of students, as determined by important measures such as high school GPA, class rank, SAT, or ACT scores. Accordingly, our admissions deliberations prioritize academic credentials.

Incoming Freshmen:  We are seeking students who have a 3.5+ GPA, an SAT score of 1220+, and graduate in the top 20% of their high school classes. Priority consideration is given to applicants who meet or exceed all of these targets. Meeting one or two of the targets, and being reasonably close on the others, likewise ensures due consideration of your application. Please note that the essay we require affords the opportunity to provide additional evidence of your abilities, both in and beyond the classroom. As service, leadership, and global understanding are emphasized in our program, we welcome evidence of these traits.

Matriculated or Transfer Students: We are seeking students who have a demonstrated record of achievement at the university level. Accordingly, the minimum GPA for transfer or matriculated students is 3.2. Please note that the essay we require affords the opportunity to provide additional evidence of your academic abilities, leadership potential, and willingness to contribute to an academic community.

Thank you for your interest in our program

I can say without a doubt that making the decision to apply to the LHU Global Honors Program was one of the best decisions that I could have made for myself as an individual, as a student, and as a future professional. Through the GHP, I have made so many lasting memories and forever friends, all while preparing myself for the future.

By applying to the program, you are immediately setting yourself up for the greatest success on campus. The Global Honors Program offers our students so many community, leadership, academic, and global opportunities that they might not otherwise have and everyone leaves the program after their senior year with nothing but the best things to say. From day one, you will develop close-knit bonds with other honors freshmen as well as upperclassmen and professors. At first the commitment may seem intimidating, but now that I have been involved in the program for some time, I have come to realize that my level of involvement within the program and academic and personal success reflect each other, and finding the balance between school and social life has become second nature. I cannot recommend applying to the Lock Haven University Global Honors Program highly enough!

To apply, we require a coversheet (found on our website), a list of significant activities (including clubs, leadership positions, advanced classes, etc.), a letter of recommendation from a high school teacher, and an essay that follows one of our prompts. While this list may seem long and daunting, I can assure you that the process goes by quickly and will be worth every second spent on it!

My time throughout the GHP has been nothing but rewarding, and I want that for every student who comes through this amazing program. If you have any questions or concerns that need addressed, please feel free to email me at honors@lockhaven.edu.

I hope to hear from you soon!
