Prospective Global Honors Students

About the Global Honors Program

The mission of Global Honors Program (GHP) at Lock Haven University is to engage distinctly qualified students in an enhanced learning experience unique to the University and other educational institutions. The Global Honors Program fosters close student-professor interaction, provides invaluable peer interaction, instills leadership values, and introduces students to the aspects of a global world. The Global Honors Program achieves this through small, discussion oriented classes; opportunities for close working relationships with professors; specialized peer groups; enhanced study abroad opportunities; and globally-focused events and opportunities.

Overview: The Global Honors Program recognizes and promotes academic excellence. We traditionally attract the top 5% of students, as determined by important measures such as high school GPA, class rank, SAT, or ACT scores. Accordingly, our admissions deliberations prioritize academic credentials.

Incoming Freshmen:  We are seeking students who have a 3.5+ GPA, an SAT score of 1220+, and graduate in the top 20% of their high school classes. Priority consideration is given to applicants who meet or exceed all of these targets. Meeting one or two of the targets, and being reasonably close on the others, likewise ensures due consideration of your application. Please note that the essay we require affords the opportunity to provide additional evidence of your abilities, both in and beyond the classroom. As service, leadership, and global understanding are emphasized in our program, we welcome evidence of these traits.

Matriculated or Transfer Students: We are seeking students who have a demonstrated record of achievement at the university level. Accordingly, the minimum GPA for transfer or matriculated students is 3.2. Please note that the essay we require affords the opportunity to provide additional evidence of your academic abilities, leadership potential, and willingness to contribute to an academic community.

Thank you for your interest in our program!

I can say with true sincerity that applying to the Global Honors Program as a senior in high school was one of the best decisions that I have made. It has had a huge impact on my college experience, and I earnestly hope that you consider applying as well.

To apply to the program, a coversheet (found on our website), an essay, a list of significant activities (including clubs, leadership positions, and advanced classes), two letters of recommendation from your teachers, and an interview (conducted by a current student) are required. This may sound like a long list, but the process goes by quickly and I can assure you that it will be worth it!

There is so much to be earned by applying to the Global Honors Program. One of my favorite aspects about this program is that it provides a sense of community that is evident as soon as you step onto campus. The fun and close-knit sense of community that I experienced my freshmen year was not only transformative in helping me transition into college, but made the Honors program my home here at Lock Haven. As my experience with the program progresses, I have found the balance that the Honors program provides between academics and other aspects of college life to become increasingly valuable. Through the program, I’ve been able to engage in academically enriching activities, work closely with professors, and develop leadership skills that have helped me to grow as both a student and a person – all while building friendships and memories that have defined my college experience.

My involvement with the program has been so much fun and so incredibly rewarding – I truly cannot recommend applying highly enough! If you have any questions about the application process or would just like to learn more about the program, please do not hesitate to contact me at
