LHU exchange student chosen for internship with German soccer club

Lena Stetter

Lena Stetter, a Lock Haven University exchange student this fall from University of Paderborn in Germany, majored in sports economics and studied sport administration courses at LHU. She is from Göttingen in the province of Niedersachsen.

For Stetter’s class project at LHU, she created a marketing plan for Wolverhampton Wanderers Football Club, a leading club in the Premier League in England, for entering and expanding their brand in the U.S. marketplace, helping LHU with engaging partners at Wolves. She chose the U.S. to study abroad because, “The U.S.A. has the most dynamic and diverse professional sports market in the world,” she said.

Her experience and excellence in the classroom and with the Wolves project has led to her obtaining an internship with RB Leipzig, which is sponsored by Red Bull. Leipzig is the No. 1 soccer club in the Bundesliga, the German league, which has the highest average attendance of any soccer league in the world.

At Leipzig, Stetter will work in the sales and business development department. She will be responsible for acquisition, maintenance and expansion of partnerships and business areas including hosting VIP guests and costumer relations for season ticket holders and new prospective clients. She is the third Lock Haven University student to receive an internship with a club sponsored by Red Bull, the first two having worked with New York Red Bulls.

Following her high school graduation, Stetter spent nine months working and travelling in New Zealand.

“She exemplifies the best in what we hope to achieve through international education and partnerships at Lock Haven University,” said John Nauright, dean of the Stephen Poorman College of Business, Information Systems and Human Services. “We will work with Lena to develop stronger connections with RB Leipzig and with colleagues at the University of Paderborn. Having students like Lena at LHU helps us as we develop global opportunities for our students and enables our students and international students to learn from each other.”
