The 73rd annual meeting of the American Society of Criminology was held from November 15-18 in Philadelphia. On November 15, faculty from the Lock Haven University Criminal Justice Department presented research at the conference.

The presenters included Drs. Dwayne Marshall, Katie Ely, Ed Bowman, Greg Koehle, and Michael McSkimming. Presentations included a panel on community-based research programs and research on pedagogy in the classroom. Included in the panel discussion were faculty-sponsored research programs related to marijuana policy, offender reentry, and conservation law enforcement. The panel was organized by criminal justice faculty with the purpose of sharing their experiences about community based research programs.

According to Dr. Ely, the American Society of Criminology annual conference allows researchers to disseminate criminological knowledge, including knowledge related to applied research programs and pedagogy. Dr. McSkimming, who specializes in conservation law enforcement, said that the annual conference also offered opportunity to learn about other community-based research programs and establish partnerships with other researchers in conservation law enforcement. Dr. Koehle shared his research related to pedagogy and its impact on student attitudes and self-reflection.

In addition to faculty presentations, two criminal justice majors, Brooke Wilk and Alexa O’Connell shared a poster presentation on a study of parole recidivism. According to Dr. Bowman, it was a great opportunity for students to attend a national criminal justice conference and provided excellent visibility for the criminal justice program at Lock Haven University.
